Scottish Kilt is a typical Scottish garment. The simplest kilt consists of a straight piece of woven wool fabric. This is wrapped high around the body, after which a belt is placed around the waist and the part around the chest is folded over the belt. This is not the Kilt as we know it today.

 

Traditionally, the kilt was worn by men and boys in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century. Nowadays, the kilt is worn by men at special, folkloric events and occasions. Especially for bagpipers, the kilt is part of the traditional attire. With the Kilt, you wear a small bag, which is called a sporran.

Scottish Kilts are also worn during carnival. The term kilt should not be used in most cases because it is more of a Scottish skirt, which is not allowed to bear the name Kilt. Scottish skirts are available in all price ranges, starting from €8.95. A real luxury version with beautiful pleats and a Scottish hat is a bit more expensive, but then you also have good quality.
