Buying a Sinterklaas beard

If you want to buy a Sinterklaas beard, you can consider the following aspects.

At least as important as his costume is Sinterklaas' beard or beard set. These are also available in various price ranges and qualities at Feest en Kleding. There are 2 types of Sinterklaas beard sets, namely synthetic and yak or buffalo beard sets.

Synthetic beards and wigs are, as the name suggests, made of synthetic material. There are beard sets that are knotted (attached) from the chin pocket or attached to a kind of fabric. With the latter sets, it is easier to maintain the curl or wave. There are beard sets with a fixed mustache - mustache attached to the beard - and with a loose mustache. It is a misconception to think that beards with a fixed mustache do not need to be glued; the beard set and mustache must always be glued to the skin to achieve the most natural appearance possible. It is important that the beard fits snugly around the head with elastic bands, at least 2 elastic bands are necessary. The wig usually sits on an adjustable cap. An example of a synthetic beard set is the kanakelon beard set (photo).

Buying a Buffalo Beard Set

The TV Sinterklaas, however, wears a buffalo/yak hair beard set. These beard sets/hairpieces are made of buffalo or yak hair. These also vary in quality. Since the beard and wig are made of real hair, these beard sets also require maintenance. A special hairdresser can wave (ondulate) the beard set, which is a highly specialized job. Buffalo hairpieces, like real hair, do not tolerate moisture or rain well. In that case, the curl/wave disappears and the beard set must be re-waved. Buffalo beard sets almost always come with a loose mustache. One of the best hairpieces is the buffalo deluxe TV model. This Sinterklaas hairpiece is made of super quality hair and we have had it specially waved by a professional. A cheaper variant is buffalo model A. This is partially attached to an extended chin piece. It is a beard set with an excellent price/quality ratio.
